hey guys I made the switch from Windows to Ubuntu a couple hours ago.

I just kinda wondered if you guys had any tips for me as far as for running programs, customization, etc...thanks
Woot!! Nice conversion to Ubuntu, and I know you will enjoy. I have used Windows for 8 years, and Ubuntu (just switched to Kubuntu for the KDE but they are the same thing) for 1 year and I have to say Ubuntu is the best.

Here are some of the sites to get you started.

http://ubuntuforums.org Great forums, dedicated to and mostly to Ubuntu. I recommend you to register there and start asking questions in the forum. You will get answers pretty quick and this will help you become familiar with you new OS.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=5272437 "HowTO Ubuntu System" This thread shows you all the commands and how to basic knowledge of how to get things to get to work on your computer.

If you are a gamer I want you to try out Wine. Wine is like a Windows emulator but is not at the same time. For a matter of fact Wine stands for W(Wine)i(is)n(not)e(*an* emulator), but this program is used to run most Windows games VERY SMOOTHLY as though as if you were still using Windows. I use this for World of Warcraft and other Blizzard Entertainment games and they work perfectly through this emulator! Here are some links.

http://www.winehq.org/ This is the Wine homepage, and has many great links
http://appdb.winehq.org/ This is the homepage for games and programs that work well (Gold being highest, then Silver, then Bronze, and then Garbage.) Just search your program on the bottom left search bar and then you will see how well it will work in Wine.

Hopefully this will get you started. Ubuntu is a little confusing at first but it gets ALOT easier over time. If you have any other questions PM me, or post in the Ubuntu forums.
wow thanks, lots of info on that one. lol
I'll check it out, thanks m8
actually im pretty sure wine means win (short for windows) and e (short for emulator) but it dosent matter. Just remeber to always treat your penguin with care....feed it properly....and check out gnomelook.org to get it some sick clothes
Uhh, no G3N3R1C Wine does not stand for Windows emulator you dumb ass. Go to the fucking Developer Page
