Maybe I should consider assigning specific forum moderators instead?

That would give less power which will mean less chance of problems.

Also I have already started a vote-ban plugin. I have other tricks up my sleeve too.

Yeah right now...I am pretty much it. Lucky for everyone I am on 16 hours a day. :)

This will all work out...I know it will. I have been through worse.
You have been through worse, can i have another story Omni?

Yeah, that would be better... But still... umm..
Less problems, with much more work. Is that really better?
I honestly think it is better. But i don't like the vote ban thing. That gives ANYONE too much power and ability, and, to be honest, such a plugin...how safe is it from a hacker? if someone were to find a vulnerability in it, they could just vote-ban everyone at once, couldn't they?

I also think you should specifically assign about four mods to each forum, two state-side, and two other-side-of-the-world-side. This way it could honestly be monitored 24/7. Also, if you want, you can also add another feature:

With the mods-per-forum, if, let's say, the mods for a specific forum are not on for a while and someone is spamming like kidrockss was there, and there was no one there to stop him, four mods from any other forum can vote to boot that person off, or four mods could temporarily take over modding the forum for a given amount of time, specified by you.

I would also suggest doing this:

Making a completely separate database for modded events and actions. For example, instead of JUST doing a full system backup, do a full system backup, plus a MODDED backup. Like, let's say your full system mod is on "monday". Let's say someone on "sunday" spams a forum while the regular mods are gone, and you are gone, so four mods from any other forum come together and ban the living crap out of the turd, well, it's saved it TWO location, the actions of the banning or any administrative actions. It's saved in the full system backup, as well as the modded backup. This way, you can do an auto-undo, even if the full system backup is damaged or somehow over written. Then, if another event like what happened a few days ago comes across and the entire system is hurt or damaged, you could have an extra backup of the "Last Known Good Configuration" (lol :P) before the jerks come on board and jack up your administrative backup.

Also, an Idea to make sure you always have a good backup, ALWAYS:

you have an automatic save, right? with a standard name/title for the file(s)? So what you can do is have a batch file or something like that (maybe not a batch file but whatever works) that renames a COPY of that file by the DATE of your current date. Then, when you have a new backup, it copies over the old backup, but you still have the dated copies. you can purge those copies after like a month or a week or something.

Anyways, just ideas.
I liked the last idea about the backups Oui But it doesn't matter what I like, eh?

Omni you're right, this isn't much of a problem, now. We were all suffering worse, 3 days ago.
Yes...I like the "individual forum moderators" idea. But there should also be global mods, but only a few. The most trustworthy members of HF only should have such a high position.

By the way, whatever happened to Hanzo?
Hanzo comes and goes as he pleases.
So do you mean one member is mod of hacking tut while one is mod of beginner hacking, etc?
Or, one mod could be mod for multiple related forums, like hacking tuts AND beginner hacking.
well, we could do a more progressive ladder like thing. you have two basic mods over one forum, then a few more over a selected group of forums, and then a few more over an entire section of forums. But, that seems like a little too much work just for this. i think just giving basic modding to users on single forums and allowing them to mod together in one forum if they NEED to mod (mind you, omni, if you do this, i would make a reporting system that tells YOU when an action like this is done. and if it is not warranted, a penalization is in calling). such an event should ONLY be done if it is supposed to be done. The idea here is to limit the power of one single user or even a group. So if a bunch of users who are all mods flip out and are like...."we gonna kill all the tree huggas!!!"....then it will have a report when the tree huggas forum (lol...w/e, just imaginary forum :D) goes down. Effectively, you'll end up either having the admin come back in and be like, snap, rewind, ban, good to go, in like three seconds, because of the mod backup and the report.

i think this is a really cool idea, but omni, what do you think? i know you got some ideas of your own, care to share?

EDIT: Knight, yes, exactly like that.
Shame if i wanted to get to mod i would need alot more posts. 4 more years of my life added and move to the USA. Seems slightly impossible. But i sopose i have always liked america lol. This is a good choice my Omni for the security of the site. I think we need mods but security is ALWAYS top especially for the amount of traffic for this site and thinking there are all hackers!
