I am downloading Freebsd 7.0 and i need opnions before I test it if anyone have used this operating system please tell me your experiences ...
Yea and I sure wanna hear BSDPUNK'S opinion
tnx bsdpunk nice blog btw.. but you said that is great for server is it good for ordinary work like playing games ,programming ,multimedia (playing videos and other stuff) .. or is it strictly for server only
So far 7.0 is doing well for me. It's going to be the nuts and bolts of my new server.
FreeBSD is very reputable when they release "stable" versions. FreeBSD is probably outside of CentOS the most professionally used OS for servers out there in *nix versions.
7.0 shows extreme promise and performance increases.
yea tnx omni .but can I use it for everydays work (programming, msn gaming and all other shits) and btw what have been with my group ... I ve send you a PM is it everything allright ?
**bump *** to BSDPUNK and OMNI
Yeah as a desktop you might want to try something else, maybe DragonFly BSD, DesktopBSD, or PC-BSD. If you still want to run it as a desktop(I did on my old compaq....3 laptops ago), you should probably try the live cd version first, so you don't fuck anything up. Freesbie is what it's called I believe.
Freebsd runs fine as a desktop/laptop computer.
It's hard as a rock and long live /usr/ports ! You can find all the software you need for IMs and programming (of course not any visual basics or batch, ;) ) The other variants bsdpunk cited are nice too, but just like linux distros, they come and die with time. Stick with the mainstream, stick with freebsd. Desktop work, you always have openOffice. For gaming ... who needs it? You can run quake .. i think .. Well there's alway wine in the worse case of senerio ;)
@japon tnx man this realy help me a lot to decide about installing or not .. I wait 3 cd to download(91%) then I will burn and install ..after I complete this tasks I will expose my opinion about FreeBSD .. tnx
